Live Long and Prosper

Ok I will grant you that "trekkies" can be a little nerdy, but I am proud to admit...I am a long time Star Trek fan.

I went last Sunday to see the new Star Trek movie and I give it 2 bibles up.  (Actually no bibles up as they look the Lord's name in vain several times.  Normally that gets me to stop watching a movie...but this was Star Trek and I was there with a member from church...so I kept watching.)

And as a pure story line the movie was great!  Even if you are not a Star Trek fan...the movie was so well done the non-"trekkie" heathens could appreciate the movie.  The movie brought back to memory a very emotional saying from a very nonemotional person.  Spock is a Vulcan (actually half Vulcan and half Human).  Vulcan's have no emotion...they have learned over time to suppress all emotion.  Yet Spock, in a very nonemotional way, has a very emotional way of saying good-bye to his closest friends.  He takes his two fore fingers and separates then from his two back fingers...holds his hand up and says, "Live long and prosper".  And every time he does this, I want to start "blithering" out loud as the non emotional Spock in essence is saying..."I love you, God Bless you, and good-bye" all in one.

I am doing a sermon series on Proverbs this summer and the Proverbs give keys for prosperous living.  The Proverbs are in essence a promised blessing of God that we would live long and prosper as well.  So many people make their lives more difficult then they need to simply because we will not heed the wisdom God gives us from scripture.  So I leave you with an encouragement to surrender yourself to the wisdom of God as he has made it known in the Bible and in so doing may you too "live long and prosper."

I was going to use this in my Uncle Andy Blog as the Vulcan hand gesture is similar to some old time religious hand gestures. May jewish but I do not exeactly where I read this. It was a great movie and if they would now make one for the next generation that would be awesome!
